Newsletter – June 2019
“Hello…”
I am on a flight to Sydney writing this Directors note for our very first Treeti Business Consulting Newsletter – heading to an Austrade Conference. Treeti is 10 years young and has be delivering business coaching and training services to the Northern Territory for the past six years.  We relocated to Darwin Corporate Park four years ago and haven’t looked back, recently securing three Commonwealth contracts and increasing our services, support and reach for our private clients.

The first of the three commonwealth contracts is the ASBAS Digital Solutions Program.  The team at Treeti has been delivering Workshops, Webinars and 1 on 1 Advisory Services for businesses across the NT.  The four streams we have been tasked to address are websites and selling online, social media and digital marketing, small business software, and cyber security and data privacy.   The second of our recent successful commonwealth contract bids is the Entrepreneur Facilitators Program (EFS), where Treeti is supporting budding entrepreneurs to start their own business and existing small business owners with coaching and mentoring. The program has an over 45 years old focus and can support coaching and facilitating a new business across all industries and sectors.  The third being the highly coveted TradeStart program with Austrade, where Treeti will provide facilitation, mentoring and coaching for businesses who are currently or would like to export their services or goods overseas.  Needless to say, our ever-growing Treeti team has been very busy and very productive lately.

There are some exciting events on the Treeti calendar for the NT.  Territory Taste Festival at the Darwin Cruise Terminal at the Waterfront was on last weekend, the 25th and 26th May.  We were excited to showcase our ASBAS Digital Solutions Program and EFS Program.  Including running a prize draw for any new ASBAS or EFS clients who registered for the program.  The first prize was a holiday for two to Bali, including flights and accommodation at the stunning Clove Tree Villas, winners to be announced this weekend.

There are some ‘save the date’s too. Treeti is joining forces with NBN Co to do a Digital Workshop Road Trip up the track from Alice Springs to Darwin from the 8th to the 12th of July, coming to a town near you.  Save the date as well for our Digital Acceleration Expo in October as part of OBM…..stay tuned for more details about these events and more.

All in all, it’s a very exciting time for the entire team at Treeti Business Consulting and we look forward to welcoming you at one of our events or workshops or just pop in and say hi to us at our new location; Level 1, Building 3, Darwin Corporate Park, Berrimah.

Till next month,

ASBAS – Australian Small Business Advisory Services
Treeti Business Consulting has been delivering the ASBAS Digital Solutions Program through the NT for over six months now.  In this time, we have provided support to hundreds of business across the Territory.  This has been via our Workshops, Webinars and One on One Advisory Services.  Business owners have learnt valuable skills such as how & why to run Facebook ads, how to get the most out of Xero, how to create captivating content using Canva and so much more!  Through the One on One Advisory Services, we have seen Business Owners take the next step in developing their digital footprint, with integrated websites, setting up online stores and implementing booking systems.  All the while these business owners are working smarter, not harder.

See our website for more information, our workshop/webinar calendar and to book in for a One on One Advisory.  This program is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government, making is much more affordable, starting at just $15.

If you aren’t sure where you should begin, contact support@treeti.com.au for guidance.
What’s news in Entrepreneurship?
Our first ideation day is coming up on June 20th, 11am – 3pm in the Cannons Function area – ground floor (Building 4) at Darwin Corporate Park.

Designed to give budding entrepreneurs and business owners looking to diversify, a platform to workshop their ideas, the ideation days will form part of the regular EFS delivery.

Come along to spend some time working on your ideas and let us help you take the next step in your journey.
Meet Richard Jones

Richard has started a business known simply as “Authentic feathery Gold Ball Co.”.  The product is a reproduction of the type of golf ball used from the 1600s to the 1850’s. This product finds demand for tournaments played through out the world, depicting the playing style and equipment of that era. This know as the “hickory golf” movement, which has existed for many years, who have been looking to use a ball suitable for that era.

Richard identified the gap in the market and a demand for playable balls for tournaments around the world, where they were typically using balls from a later era.

In the first instance, he produced the balls himself by hand, a tedious and time-consuming practice.

He has recently obtained an order from the US for a tournament in Ohio, where they will be rigorously tested in a “real world” test.

Richard has been working with the ERS program since April to assist with the development of his business and marketing.

Treeti has had some wonderful clients in the Northern Territory, and some clients are more like family…..Wigg Plumbing are one of those clients.  Graeme Wigg, the previous owner and patriarch of Wigg Plumbing, initially thought his youngest daughter, son-in-law and business partner were crazy for employing Treeti to navigate the sale of his business to them.  At the same time we have been implementing systems, processes, training and communication protocols into the business to improve productivity and profitability of the business.  Two years later Graeme is delighted to be an advocate of this process and we are happy to use Wigg as a poster company of what’s possible as a client.

Thank you Graeme, Shelley, Lizzie, Michael, Rebecca, Sammie and Mitch for your ongoing support of Treeti Business Consulting.

Managing Director

Recruitment can be challenging.  One aspect is deciding who to interview – and how many candidates to interview.  A handy tool to assist in this process is the “Pre Screen”.
This is a five minute phone call to all suitable applicants to help you determine the most appropriate people to interview.  To do this, review applications and determine who seems suitable based on what you have advertised for: relevant qualifications, experience, characteristics.  Call each of the short list and ask them a specific set of questions.  Advise them you are conducing pre-screening and should they move to the next round, you will call them back to schedule an interview.  The pre-screening phone call should take 5-10 mins, no longer.  You will have time to go into deeper detail in the formal interview.
Questions could include:Are you currently living in Darwin/Alice Springs/Other – or are you planning to relocate? What work restrictions do you have? What is your salary expectation?  If they are expecting more than you are offering this is the time to ask if they are still interested in the roleWhat experience do you have that is relevant to this role? What qualifications do you have that is relevant to this role? What software are you familiar with that is relevant to this role?If you are successful, when would you be able to start?Anything that is important to this roleNow create an interview list of candidates who stood out in the pre-screen.  They met the needs of the role, conversed well and sounded engaged. Aim to interview 2-3 people.
It seems very fitting to nominate Megan Holzfeind in our first newsletter as Treeti Business Consulting Employee of the Month.  Six years ago, when I came to Darwin, Megan was the first person I hired for Treeti, shoulder to shoulder we built Treeti client by client and literally Treeti would not exist if it was not for Megan’s hard work, dedication and commitment to Treeti’s success.  The team call Megan “Megan the Machine” because of her ability to produce large volumes of quality work (even if she is in Labour!!!)  Megan sets the bar high for everyone and we are all thrilled for Megan in her new role when she returns from maternity leave as General Manager – Treeti Business Consulting.
